Post, Joel Seth

b. April 27, 1816, in Ontario, New York. In 1839, Post moved to Macon County, Illinois, and studied law under Charles Emerson. He was admitted to the bar in 1841 and moved to Decatur, Illinois, where he practiced law for more than thirty years. In 1846, Post served in the Mexican War as a quartermaster with the rank of captain. He was elected in 1856 as a Democrat for a term in the state senate.
